Retail, New Frontiers: 2015 Trends

The evolving consumer is not always easy for retailers to understand. The value proposition behind

their product and service selection is continuing to change. Consumers put emphasis on personalization, seek opportunities where their input matters, and they value product and service solutions.

According to Future Retail Trends 2015 from Price WaterHouse Coopers & TNS Retail Forward, shifting demographics, household downsizing, more educated consumers and new channel formats will dictate that the industry adjust and modify existing models to meet the needs of future customers. Retailers must become aware to tailor their offerings to select customers in order to win them over and foster greater customer loyalty.

As opposed to the mass appeal approach of the late 1980s, more lifestyle and neighborhood centers are in demand where retail mingles with nontraditional traffic drivers. More than just a place to shop, these developments feature lifestyle-driven formats. Places where people can congregate to dine, live, and be entertained have become popular.

CityPlace, in Overland Park, Kansas, is a smart match for retail and office investors looking for an exciting, brand-new destination where people can come together for shopping, business, and entertainment. The mixed-use community features commercial office buildings, apartment residences, senior living, retail shops and landscaped trails. Those working and living at CityPlace will appreciate the convenience of walking to grab a bite to eat, utilizing the services of the dry cleaner or beauty salon, or picking up their favorite bottle of wine all without leaving CityPlace.

The 90-acre development has exceptional exposure to the most prominent suburban highway corridor in the city, providing access from all of southern Johnson County via U.S. 60, I-435, I-35 and College Boulevard.

“The premier location and access to CityPlace, coupled with its mixed uses and walkability, are creating tremendous interest in the project,” Ken Block, Principal at Block Real Estate Services said. “There will be approximately 8,000 employees and residents working and living at the development, all of whom need access to retail amenities. CityPlace will appeal to those office workers who appreciate convenient amenities just outside the door of their place of employment.”

Site work is underway now for the multifamily and retail is looking to start fall of 2015.  CityPlace
