Another reason why it's great to be in Kansas City is an Office Market that is coming out of recession and on the rise. With much excitement for our second day on the 12 days of "Why it’s great to be in Kansas City"', Block Real Estate (BRES) will focus on the Cerner Corporation and how this company alone has helped shape the KC office market landscape:
New Headquarters Development
Cerner’s new West Campus headquarters opened this year in Kansas City, Kansas. Cerner has begun moving their employees into first of two towers to be built on this campus and the second tower is planned to be finished in early 2014. The incentives deal with the state yielded $147 million in Kansas sales tax revenue (STAR) bonds and $85 million in state tax credits and cash incentives. The deal also requires Cerner to create 4,000 new jobs with an average annual salary of $54,000 by 2016, showing how headquarters like Cerner are bringing more jobs and vitality to the office market in the Kansas City area. Headquarters Redevelopment
Besides new development, Cerner also began plans this year that focus on redeveloping the currently vacant Bannister Mall. The proposed campus plans are set to have over 4.5 million square feet of use that will cover up to 251 acres of land. The new headquarters will consist of high-tech integrated offices, data, and service centers. Additionally, the campus is proposed to consist of mixed-use space for restaurant, retail, fitness, and child care spaces. The campus is set into 14 phases of construction and is predicted to be complete in 2024 and will be the largest KC office development ever. Cerner and the surrounding neighborhoods hope that this redevelopment will work towards revitalizing the area and bringing more business and jobs to a neighborhood that is thirsty for change.
