Day 1 - Downtown Development - 12 Days of Why It's Great to be in KC

Downtown Development 12 Days of Why It's Great to be in KC

Kansas City is an exciting place to be right now and even the press is recognizing it. Last year, Bloomberg ranked KC number 15 in America’s 50 Best Cities. This year, Kansas City was also ranked 15th among the best cities to live. Much of the excitement around Kansas City comes from the downtown revival as the KC downtown is now booming with development and changes. For our first day on the 12 days of why it's great to be in Kansas City, Block Real Estate Services (BRES) reflects on some of the highlights of downtown development.

Commerce Tower
The Commerce Tower has recently been approved for renovations to its 30 floor building with over 438,070 sq ft. The Commerce Tower plans focus on the building becoming a mixed-used property to meet the growing demands of Kansas City’s growing downtown community who live and work in the downtown area. The building will have 265 apartment buildings and over 160,000 square feet of refurbished office space. This $71 million project is set to begin construction in Spring 2014. Learn more about the Commerce Tower Project Here.

Folgers Plant
Once a Folgers coffee plant, work on the Folgers building will begin in 2014 to offer new apartment amenities to downtown residents in the Kansas City Garment District. Learn more about this project here.
Managed by Block Multifamily
This conceptual redevelopment plan will incorporate a mix of studio, one bedroom/one bath and two bedroom /two bath units with additional loft space. There will also be underground parking, a swimming pool, fitness facility, lounge and indoor / outdoor gathering areas. Block Multifamily Group (BMG) will be the management company for this new development.

Kansas City's Redevelopment
Many cities in the United States are establishing measures to the revitalize their downtown cores. Kansas City, despite a recession, has continued to grow and accomplish revitalization of its city core. Redevelopment focuses in Kansas City like the aforementioned Commerce Tower and Folgers Plant are working to create a thriving downtown with a higher population, and assist surrounding areas in development progress. Downtown’s vacancy space is continually being reduced with the redevelopment of residential and the demand for modern office space in its core.

The boom in KC downtown redevelopment and strides toward creating a vibrant live / work community in the downtown area is one of the reasons why Block Real Estate thinks it's great to be in Kansas City!
