New leading-edge lab facilities in Lenexa, Kan., will help fuel the
company’s continued growth as a global supplier of ingredient solutions to the
world’s foremost food manufacturers.
Global ingredient solutions
provider Corbion, part of the Kansas City business landscape for more than a
century, will break ground with project developer Block Real Estate Services,
LLC (BRES) June 21st on the construction of an expanded regional
headquarters and advanced laboratory facilities designed to keep pace with
Corbion’s continued growth. The new structure—just blocks from Corbion’s North
American home of 11 years and also part of the Pine Ridge Business Park in
Lenexa—is expected to be complete by August 2018.
Groundbreaking ceremonies were
held Wednesday morning at the corner of 83rd Terrace and Flint
Street in Lenexa, Kansas. The future site of Pine Ridge Business Park Building
31. The upgraded Lenexa presence will continue as Corbion’s North American
headquarters and will further enhance its already strong research, development
and application capabilities. Designed to support the company’s highly
collaborative approach to useful innovation, the new facility will make it
easier for Corbion scientists, marketers and application experts to work
closely with customers in the development of product concepts that respond to
consumer demands in a constantly evolving global marketplace. Significant
additions include new state-of-the-art bakery research and application labs, as
well as a new meat lab to support Corbion’s rapidly growing role in the meat
industry.
“Corbion’s tagline is ‘Keep
Creating’ because we never stop looking for new and better ways to apply our
technologies and experience to benefit our customers and the consumers who buy
their products,” said Andy Muller, executive vice president at Corbion. “Each
of us is a consumer, too, and we want that perspective to help shape everything
we do. Combining that view with our
technical expertise and our customers’ knowledge, we work side by side with
them to create something better. It’s what we’re known for; it’s what we’re so
good at. Our new facilities will support us in doing it even more.”
With a reputation built on its
expertise in emulsifiers and functional blends in the baking industry,
Corbion’s steady, upward trajectory can be largely attributed to its relentless
dedication to innovation. Now the market leader in lactic acid and lactic acid
derivatives, Netherlands-based Corbion has become highly adept at developing
“clean-label” alternatives to traditional, synthetic ingredient solutions for
controlling pathogens that can threaten consumers’ health, and spoilage
organisms that can threaten manufacturers’ bottom line. The company also
leverages its sophisticated capabilities in lactics to deliver sustainable
solutions in agriculture, pharma, animal health, home care, personal care, electronics,
and coatings and adhesives.
“BRES is excited to be able to
assist Corbion with their expansion at Pine Ridge Business Park,” said Kenneth
G. Block, managing principal at BRES. “As a fellow industry leader, BRES
admires Corbion’s commitment to quality and innovation because it reflects our
own. In addition, Corbion’s involvement in the community and focus on giving
back align with BRES’s commitment to philanthropy, making this an ideal
partnership.”
Despite Corbion’s global
business scope, its Kansas City area staff have a tradition of getting involved
to support local community causes, such as the KC Corporate Challenge, which
benefits Special Olympics. Since 2010, through its support of Harvesters Food
Bank, Corbion has provided well over a quarter of a million meals to Kansas
City area families in need.
BRES is focused on making
lasting contributions to the Kansas City community, not only by being the top,
single-source provider of commercial real estate services, but also by giving
back. BRES regularly supports and sponsors organizations including: The
Salvation Army, Harvester’s, Alzheimer’s Association, Special Olympics, the
Wounded Warrior Project, American Royal, and the Boy’s & Girl’s Club of
America, among others. Ken Block was named ‘Man of the Year’ by Big Brothers
Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City in 2016.
