The KC Foodie Market Report: Unique Client Eats

In such a diverse culinary city as Kansas City, there are more creative places to take clients than the same old. Is another lunch at Capitol Grille going to make a mark on their memory? I love the Capitol Grille's French Onion Soup as much as the next guy, but in a business like CRE, you've got to make an impression. Don't spend your bucks on same old. Below, I have highlighted three delicious joints to take clients that are sure to please and demonstrate your knowledge of the city, broken up by individual submarkets.

Kansas City, Kansas Submarket

El Camino Real
Two Locations:
903 N. 7th Street, Kansas City, KS 66101
1147 Argentine Blvd, Kansas City, Kansas 66105

If your client is a die-hard Mexican food lover of authentic spots like those that grace the Boulevard, this is just the ticket. El Camino Real offers great service and is super quick, ideal for on the road showings. The aromas of the hot homemade corn tortillas steam up to your nose before you take a bite of that delicious taco. They slow cook the meat right in front of you and serve it all up with the freshest of  Cilantro, Diced Onions, Pico De Gallo and Salsa.  I recommend Pastor and Pollo tacos. Feel free to load up. It's only $1.25 a taco! Cheap enough to take a whole group to dinner and drinks!

El Pollo Rey
901 Kansas Ave, Kansas City, KS 66105

Possibly the best Roasted Chicken I have ever had! They only have three dishes, all $12 or under. Whole Roasted Chicken (split-able), Half Roasted Chicken and Chicken Wings. You can't go wrong with any of them. Your entrée comes with Homemade Rice, Refried Beans, Fresh Homemade Tortillas, Onions and Homemade Salsa. Don't expect much for ambience (pretty simple), but this restaurant is flat out amazing and very authentic. Great place to impress a client with your knowledge of dive restaurants.

The Crossroads/Downtown

The Brick
http://thebrickkcmo.com/
1727 McGee Street, Kansas City, MO 64108

After its feature on Diners, Drive-Ins And Dives, The Brick restaurant has reached a newly found  popularity, but its quality always sustains. This is a fun, kitsch, hole-in-the-wall bar. The front is totally unassuming of the tastes on the inside. The house specialties and daily offerings are so flavorful, it's hard to go wrong. Taco Tuesday is a destination meal, which includes a vegetarian Chili Taco Option as well as a beef taco option. Recommend the Meatloaf Sandwich (made with homemade ketchup) to get them hooked and the BLT is a personal favorite. It's an easy in and out place to take a client with many items priced at less than $10 and vegetarian options galore.
